What Matters Most

John 9:24-34
The Pharisees Investigate the Healing

24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. "Give glory to God," they said. "We know this man is a sinner."

25 He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"

26 Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"

27 He answered, "I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?"

28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses! 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from."

30 The man answered, "Now that is remarkable! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will. 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

34 To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.

Bee's Thoughts:

What good does it do if you know the background of a person but do not see any good deed coming from this person? However, If you can see all the good deeds and the love of this person but not know his/her background much, does it therefore negate his/her good deeds? Not to the man who was born blind from birth. What matters most is the deed, not the background or words. He didn't know Jesus at all, yet he could feel His love and compassion, His healing power... that is more important.

Sadly, very often most people care more for legality, the external issues, rather than the real expression of love and deeds. By the time they settle all the legality, know the backgound, etc, they would have lost the chance of experiencing what love is. Time waits for no man. Why can't people be as simple as the blind man?

Jesus said, "by their fruits we shall know them". The blind man said, "If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." (v33). This is a truth that a simple blind man knew, yet not the highly educated Pharisees.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for giving me simple faith in You even though I am such a complicated person with complicated thinking, very skeptical, very analytical, very meticulous. That surely must be a gift from You so I can experience all Your love and blessings which I couldn't get where else.

Thank You for my few good friends who always stand by me to cheer me on when I am down. What matters more to me is their deeds of love, not their looks, status, or backgrounds. I pray for them that You will bring them joy and peace, and bless them with people who care for them too.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
